Specific Design Problems

1)  The additional weight caused by placing a spoiler on the trunk, makes the operator of the vehicle unable to unlock the trunk from inside the car

The trunk latch is designed for the weight of the trunk only.  By attaching a spoiler onto the rear end of the car, the weight of the trunk increases.

The sport spoiler (as seen above) adds an additional 25 lbs. to the trunk.

The regular spoiler adds about 15 lbs. to the trunk.

A trunk with no spoiler probably works perfect, just the way the engineer designed it to work.

2) The trunk latch is a two-stage mechanism.

When the trunk latch mechanism is working the way it should, after the operator of the vehicle triggers the
remote release, the trunk should pop open and allow the operator to see the contents of the trunk.

This doesn’t happen because the lock has two stages.  When the trunk is open, and you want to close it, you push down on the trunk and it closes.  Sometimes it doesn’t close all the way, but it is already locked into place (resting about ½ inch above all touching panels of the car).  This is what we will call Stage1. Stage 2 is when the trunk is completely locked into place and it is flush with all of the other panels on the car.  (This is the normal way to have your trunk while driving)
